34th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run - Saturday April 2nd, 2011

This Saturday (April 2, 2011) will be the 34th annual Cooper River Bridge Run. Participants who start on Coleman Boulevard in Mt, Pleasant have to make their way across the Cooper River on the Ravenel Bridge over to the "bad" side of the Cooper. The Bridge Run is a 10k event or around 6.2 miles for those of us who don't speak "k's". This is about as far as anyone with a logically oriented brain would run.

The weather looks like it will be near perfect this year, with the skies projected to clear up and with high temperatures expected to be in the low to mid '70's.

The run starts at 8AM, with the road closings starting at 7:00 AM Saturday. The course route will remain closed until the final runners wrap up the race. The Ravenel Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the event and probably won't be open again until around 11:30 AM.

I've just seen photos, but I know when it's a good time to leave town. And that would be Friday night if you live anywhere near the race course. All 40,000 spaces in the run are sold out, however, you can still register for a charity bib ($150 in person at the Bridge Run office, 716 S Shelmore Blvd. # 105, Mt. Pleasant) or on Thursday 3/31 and Friday 4/01 (no foolin') at the expo.
